PLEASE HELP ME THIS IS GOING TO BE MY FIRST CUSTOM BUILT COMPUTER AND TIPS/SUGGESTIONS WILL BE HELPFUL.
ok.
I would go Intel Core 2 Duo and get a sli mobo with LGA 775 socket like this: only $84

I would forget the AMD cpu since they suck for games now, and get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115030
a little more $$$:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115028
a lot of $$$:

You need a operating system, do you?
I suggest this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116202
cheaper than XP Pro, has DX-10 for games, and has more features.
If you have a little more cash, I suggest getting a better video card, the 8600 series sucks.
Get a 8800 GT like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125081
Its overclocked 100 MHz more than the standard 8800 GT.
You need cooling for the computer, here is a good fan (buy more please):

(I have this fan, I love it)
