New computer.. amd or intel? for gaming and desktop publishing?
I am rather smart when it comes to computers, but making decisions not so great at. So I am wanting a computer that I can use for high end gaming, Photoshop, web design, and video editing. I am going to have a 500 GB hd. and 4gb of memory.CD drive, case, and windows are not needed, as i already have these. I would also like to dual boot with hackintosh. So here is my question: on intel should i get a core 2 duo 3ghz and overclock a little. or get a intel quad at 2.66... or not as familiar with amd but ive been told they are good for gaming. so recommend an amd. also a video card that will beat a geforce 8800GTX overclocked edition. i have a budget of 800$.

core i7 is not an option because i have to buy a whole system.
I was just saying i already had a definite idea of what i wanted for case hd etc.
Plus im on a budget.
With your applications of video editting etc I strongly suggest a quadcore. Intel is best right now. Go with the 8xxx family as it has the new 45nm architecture. Case in point (benchmarks):
