I'm currently in 9th grade and I am hoping to buy a desktop computer soon. I want to become a computer animator or graphics designer. I want a computer that's fast (has a lot of memory space), good for entertainment (graphic designing, animation) and a computer that can easily do presentations and projects. I want a computer that can last me all the way through high school at least (4 years).
not a laptop! for what you want, i'd buy a nice desktop. make sure it has a good video card and at least 2 gigs of ram (ready access memory) but for the best bang for your buck, contact your local geek and have them help you build one. much much cheaper, and powerful 
update: don't get a mac! you'll regret it. try to get the specs i have for about $600 on a mac. impossible. i've got a quad core, 4 gigs of ram, and nvidia gefoce 9800 gtx. smokin fast and avast anti virus is amazing and free
