Tuff, I've read the other answers, I'll tell you that several of them are very good and a few.....oh well every one has their opinion. I make custom barrels as part of my shop. Like some others have mentioned the equipment is costly, some is very specialized, and some of mine I've had to modify from other original use. I have a background in firearms training, repair, and modification from the military. I have a shop that I do private work out of for family and a few close friends now. To make a barrel you have to have a working knowledge of metallurgy, be a competent machinist, and you have to have the time to commit to it. Fitting, testing, proofing, and assuming the liability of making or modifying a barrel is also part of it.
I would tell you that unless you have the equipment and experience it is a useless endeavor on your part to pursue. If you need a certain type of barrel contact the firearms maker and see what they offer. Otherwise you could see a good gunsmith in your area and see what they tell you.
